Gloria Flegal

August 4, 1952 — April 21, 2021

Plymouth

The world is missing the infectious laughter of Gloria N. Flegal (Dassow) and heaven is a happier place. Gloria age 68, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on April 21,2021. She was escorted to heaven by angels who visited her early in her battle with Pancreatic Cancer.   She was born on August 4, 1952 in Plymouth, Wisconsin, she spent almost her entire life on or near her mother’s farm near Johnsonville. She was happily married to the love of her life, Jay Flegal, for forty eight years.

Gloria had an infectious, outgoing personality which allowed everyone to know when she was in a room. She brought great joy to all she came in contact with, her laughter was contagious.

Gloria graduated from Plymouth High School in 1970 and later graduated from Western Wisconsin Technical Institute with an associate degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse.  She worked for 14 years at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Hospital in the Recovery room, ICU and 2K.  She worked at the Aurora Sheboygan Clinic in the Ob/Gyn department for the last 30 years of her career.  She was a cheerful and diligent nurse who amplified the joy of the patients she served and suffered along with those who were struck by tragedy.

Gloria was active in 4-H for most of her life.  She was the General leader of the Johnsonville Hustlers 4-H club and she served on the Sheboygan County Leaders Association.  She also worked in the Sheboygan County Fair Office during the weekend of the fair.

She was a lifelong member of Saron United Church of Christ where she dedicated a lot of her time to serve in various leadership roles, committees, and choirs.

Gloria most loved spending time with her family.  Her grandchildren were the center of her life and she spent her time creating activities that would make them happy.  She created treasure and Easter egg hunts, inspired their imaginations through make believe activities, and simply played any and all things with them. She always hand-decorated her grandchildren's birthday cakes, and she loved to share her baking skills with them. She was also an avid Packer fan and season ticket holder who cheered the loudest for her Pack.  She loved flowers and showing them every year at the Sheboygan County Fair.  She loved spending time at her cottage on Kentuck Lake where she enjoyed sledding, waterskiing, boating, playing yard games, and just relaxing on the pier.

Gloria was preceded in Death by her Father, Donald; Mother Elvera; and Brother, Glenn Dassow.  She is survived by her husband, Jay; two Daughters, Deann (Ryan) Harper of Sheboygan, WI, Lindsey (Brian) Poirier of Hartford, WI; and her Grandchildren, Brevan, Reid, and Brynn Harper, and Gavin and Elin Poirier. She is also survived by her Sister, Janet (Karl) Wesener and her Brother, James (Judy) Dassow; and many nieces and nephews.

Her family would like to thank the Vince Lombardi Staff for their excellent care and kindness during Gloria’s battle with pancreatic cancer. The family also wishes to thank the Staff at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for their skilled and compassionate care.  In addition We are so appreciative and wish to thank all of the family and friends who visited or sent Gloria cards, gifts, flowers, meals, and words of encouragement during her Illness.
