Richard Rupp

Richard W. "Dick" Rupp, age 76, of Sheboygan, longtime owner of Rupp's Lodge, downtown Sheboygan, passed away on Wednesday May 1, 2019 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice after a lingering illness. He was born October 17, 1942 in Sheboygan, a son of the late Christ and Iva (Bentley) Rupp.

Dick started his life long career in food service at age 14, working at Rammer Sausage company. He then worked at Hoffmanns at Riverdale as a dishwasher at the age of 16, progressing to line cook, graduating from Sheboygan South High School in 1961. On October 6, 1962, High School Sweethearts Sandra Sue Skvarce and Richard Rupp were united in Marriage.

Dick worked at Ye Olde Inn in Sheboygan for a brief time, returning to Riverdale as head Chef in 1963, where he continued until purchasing the former Everett's Lodge on north 8th street in 1979. This month, Dick and Sandy celebrated 40 years in business. Dick and Sandy received numerous local recognitions for being the "Best of" Sheboygan County over the years, which he was most proud. He was an active member of the Wisconsin Restaurant Association where he had served on the board of directors for 10 years, also forming the Eastern Shore Chapter of the state association. He was recognized as Restaurateur of the Year and Mentor of the Year by the WRA. Dick was a Master Mason with the Sheboygan Lodge 11 for over 45 years.

Dick especially enjoyed being up north at his cottage in the Rhinelander area. He loved fishing, hunting, golfing, playing cards and just making the rounds to see his many friends. He enjoyed watching the Packers and Brewers and the History channel.

Surviving Richard is his loving wife Sandra, one son; Richard R. (Jenny) Rupp of Sheboygan, two daughters; Kristin (Mark) Hyland of Sheboygan and Kelly (Dan) Shanley of Waukesha, four grandchildren; Emily & Ben Hyland, Natalie and Sam Shanley, two step-grandchildren; Olivia and Ryan Dicke, a brother; Larry J. (Debe) Rupp of Newton and four sisters; Joan K. Marshman of Glendale AZ, Kathleen M. Jost of Cleveland WI, Cynthia L. Rupp of Sheboygan and Mary A. (Ringo) Zimmer of Sheboygan. Dick is also survived by nieces, nephew other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, Dick was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Randolph Jost.

A Celebration of the life of Richard Rupp will begin on Saturday May 4, 2019 at 12:30 p.m. at Zimmer Westview Funeral & Cremation Care Center with a Masonic Lodge Service followed by Reverend Greg Whelton. Friends may call on the family at Westview starting at 9:00 a.m. until the time of services.

A memorial fund has been established for the Culinary Scholarship program in the name of Richard W. Rupp.
