Richard Jelovnik

September 18, 1929 — August 26, 2017

Richard F. Jelovnik, of Sheboygan, passed away Saturday morning, August 26, 2017 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls. He was 87 years old.

Richard was born September 18, 1929 in Sheboygan, the son of Frank and Mary (nee Melanz) Jelovnik. He attended Ss. Cyril & Methodius grade school and graduated from Sheboygan Central High School in 1948. He went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On April 30, 1955, he was united in marriage with Mary Ann Kotnik in Sheboygan. She preceded him in death in 2006 after 51 years of marriage.

A carpenter by trade, Richard retired in 1995 after working for Sheboygan Public Schools for 10 years.

A dedicated, lifetime member of Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, Richard was active in the choir, and volunteered his time helping with the maintenance of the church. He also enjoyed assisting with the yardwork at Greendale Cemetery. He was a proud Slovenian, and was involved with the Slovenian Union Association as well as KSKJ. Richard was a member of the Kettle Carvers, and enjoyed woodcarving, winning several ribbons for his work. An avid Green Bay Packer fan, he also was very proud of his vegetable garden which was displayed in the Sheboygan Area Garden Walk.

Richard is survived by his children: Sue (Brian) Linderholm, Mary Sandwick, Peggy Wojchik, John (Patty) Jelovnik and Jim (Laura) Jelovnik, 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way, sister-in-law Maria Pausha, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann, daughter Kitty Jelovnik, sister Joan (Ed) Golob and brother-in-law Jim Pausha.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, 822 New Jersey Ave. in Sheboygan with Father Paul Fliss officiating. The family will receive visitors at the church on Tuesday from 9-11 a.m. He will be laid to rest at Greendale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Terrace Estates and Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, especially Sejla, Lisa and Bobbi, for their compassionate care and support.
