Judith C. Held, 82, passed away the evening of Monday, April 1, 2024, at Pine Haven Covenant Home in Sheboygan Falls.
She was born in Sheboygan on October 19, 1941, to the late Stephen and Carmen (Uelmen) McCall and was a 1959 graduate of Kohler High School.
Judy attended beauty school in Milwaukee and was a hairdresser for many years, working at salons in H. C. Prange and JC Penney. After her first husband passed away, she continued to cut and style the hair of friends and family members in her home, with her daughters often being guinea pigs of the latest trends. As her career was winding down, she spent the last few years going to nursing homes and “doing a head” to make the day of those who couldn’t get out to a salon on their own. Judy also spent time working in a dental office, at the American Club and at Merle Norman.
On May 11, 1963, Judy married Wayne Warbler. Together they had 3 children. They were married 13 years before his early passing in 1976.
On October 24, 1987, Judy married Harlan Held. Through this union, she gained 4 adult children, 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He preceded her in death in 2017.
Judy was a lifetime member of St. John Evangelist Church in Kohler, participating with the funeral committee, singing in the choir, going to Rocky Knoll to play bingo, counting money and helping with religious education.
Over the years, Judy’s hobbies included listening to the police scanner, bowling in several leagues in the area and gardening. Judy also enjoyed going out for breakfast and dinner as well as going for drives in the country and along Lake Michigan. She had many beloved fur babies over the years, who have all preceded her in death. She enjoyed grooming and walking them all, often being accompanied by dear neighbors, most recently Colleen Carney.
Surviving Judy are her children, Cathy (Terry) Hopkins, their children Danielle (Lonnie Boutwell), Aerin and Kristen; David Warbler (Maggie Hulsey) and his daughter Olivia; and Julie (Mark) Pleune and their children Casey, Elyse, Madelyn, Owen, Blake and Emersyn. She is also survived by step-children, Susan (Don) Schneider, Sandra (Greg) Bowe, Joe Strojny, Steven (Roswitha) Held, their children and grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by one sister Marlene Niemann, brother-in-law Lowell (JoEllen) Held, sisters-in-law, Sheila (Jim) Cudworth, Jeanne (Alan) Garczynski, Marie Warbler and Berdie Warbler, along with many nieces and nephews and dear family friend, Vicki Lindstrom.
Judy is also preceded in death by her parents and in-laws, first husband Wayne Warbler, her second husband Harlan Held, step-son Scott Held, step-daughter Cheri Strojny, her brother Bernard McCall, a nephew Brian McCall, sister-in-law Mary Ann McCall and brothers-in-law Cully Niemann, Doyle Warbler and Lee Warbler.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Judy on Friday April 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Evangelist Catholic Church in Kohler, with Fr. Jonathon Schmeckel officiating. Interment will follow at the Woodland Cemetery in Kohler. Friends may call at the CHURCH on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. The service will be livestreamed and a recording will be available on the funeral home's website after the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Judy’s name.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Bettag and Dr. Barnes and their staff. We extend our immeasurable gratitude to the entire staff at Pine Haven and to Michelle and Amanda from Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for their compassionate care, support and love Judy received. We’d be remiss if we didn’t extend our appreciation to Marty Tenpas for taking care of Molly, Judy’s dog, after she moved into Pine Haven and to Lorraine Schaap for offering her Communion while she lived there.
