Harold Herwig

March 18, 1937 — September 12, 2017

Harold R. Herwig, 80, of Plymouth, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan. He was born March 18, 1937 in Plymouth to Richard and Ella (Stuckmann) Herwig. He was confirmed at Immanuel UCC in 1951, and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1955. He worked with his father Richard on the family farm, and on September 16, 1961 he was united in marriage to the love of his life Eleanor Boedecker at Saron UCC. Eleanor preceded him in death on June 29, 2014.
Harold was a dairy and hog farmer. He also in his younger years was a milk truck driver for Erwin Zimmerman and the Crystal Springs Cheese Factory, and he helped seasonally at a Mink Ranch while he was farming.
Harold was a member of the Franklin Fire Department for 52 years, a member and director of the Sheboygan County Farm Bureau, and a member, elder, treasurer for 10 years and Deacon of Immanuel UCC.
Not only did Harold have a strong faith and love of farming, he was also an avid collector of toy tractors and he spent countless hours restoring antique tractors. Feeding the birds and watching the wildlife that roamed the farm were favorite past times of his. He loved working with his hands and enjoyed making flower boxes for family and friends. His family was his pride and joy. Creating memories with them was his passion. He also enjoyed traveling especially the two trips he made to Germany with church, visiting where his family had come from Langenholzhausen, Lippe-Detmold.
Harold is survived by his four daughters; Marguerite (David) Breisch, Kathleen Herwig, Charlotte Herwig, and Elizabeth (Edward) Depies all of Plymouth, seven grandchildren; Richard and Rachel Breisch, Erin Doherty, Nicole Walber, Courtney and Emily Waters, and Ella Depies, by brothers-in-law Vernon (Sharon) Boedecker and Marvin (Suzi) Boedecker, also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 53 years Eleanor.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 6:00 PM at Immanuel UCC, W3694 CTH FF, Plymouth, with Rev. Laura Yurs officiating. Inurnment will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Immanuel UCC Cemetery at 9:00 AM. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Friday, September 15, 2017 from 2:30PM until the time of service at the CHURCH.
A memorial fund will be established in Harold's name.
