Caroline L. Hickmann, 91, of Newton, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay. Caroline was born August 15, 1933, in Sheboygan, to the late Fritz and Frieda (Voss) Sprenger. On May 15, 1954, she married the love of her life, Eugene “Cy” Hickmann at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Osman. Caroline was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and loved spending time with her family. She will be missed deeply by all who knew her.
Caroline is survived by five children, Mary (Jim) Herr, Jean (Mike) Kuhfuss, Lori (Doug) Bender, Judy Kuhn, and Mark (Julie) Hickmann; one daughter-in-law, Ruth Hickmann; 16 grandchildren, Erin (Seth) Maurer, Ann (Zeb) Hickmann, Erik Hickmann, Ryan (Kayla) Hickmann, David (Jaci) Hickmann, Benjamin (Rachael) Hickmann, Nicole (Joe) Neils, Tom (Ashley) Herr, Greg (Tera) Herr, Robbie (Kim) Herr, Sara (Dave) Smith, Mark (Angela) Kuhfuss, Gina (Kevin) Gutschow, Jesse (Jenna) Rumpff, Robert Bassuener and Bryce Kuhn (special friend Jess Loch); 34 great-grandchildren, Caleb, Keira, Tavia, Haven, Arianna, Gabby, Caroline, Ellen, Clara, Isla, Josie, Mason, Ava, Kaden, Aubrey, Kinslee, Ryder, Kiley, Keegan, Kane, Landon, Asher, Amelia, Matthew, Jackson, Ben, Nick, Katie, Hailey, Jamison, Madyson, Kaylee, Kami and Easton and one sister-in-law, Phyllis Hickmann. In addition to her parents and her husband, Caroline was preceded in death by one son, Gary; one granddaughter, Karissa Kuhn; brothers, Arno (Rose) Sprenger, George (Ruth) Sprenger; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marion (Hilary) Wojta, Laverne (Victor) Hartlaub, Joan Brennan, Norbert Hickmann and Ronald (Judy) Hickmann.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church (8100 Brunner Road, Newton) with the Rev. Dave Beaudry as celebrant. Friends may call on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Zimmer's Westview Funeral and Cremation Care Center (Hwy 42 & JJ, Howards Grove) from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday, at the church, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Entombment will take place at Knollwood Mausoleum in Two Rivers.
The family would like to thank the Sheboygan Senior Community Center for the kindness and excellent care that was shown to Caroline. A special thanks to Father Dave for visiting mom during her time of need and singing her favorite song, Amazing Grace.
