Bernetta M. Brendel, 92, of Sheboygan, died on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at Terrace Place in Sheboygan. Bernetta was born on Christmas Eve 1923 in the Town of Herman to Clarence and Orela (Wuestenhagen) Illig. A talented seamstress, she worked at Wigwam Mills for 28 years. Bernetta had a strong faith and was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Howards Grove and served on the Alter Guild for many years. In later years when the bus tours were harder to do, she traveled locally with Cindy Nelson and Mary Burtard, and the rest of the "Jingle Bell Girls". She also loved to crochet and made afghans for all her grandchildren. Family was very important to her and she loved creating memories, and spending time with them.
She is survived by three sons: Charles (Patricia) Brendel, Jerome Brendel, and Vernon (Linda) Brendel, by five grandchildren; Nathan (Briana) Brendel, Stephanie (Chase) Nelson, Annette Brendel, Jeff Brendel, and Scott (Jenny) Brendel, eight great-grandchildren, her sisters Margaret Erdman and Jeanette Wreidt, sister in-law Lorraine Brendel, also by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her brother Ernst Illig, and several brother and sister-in-laws.
