Alvin “Bud” R. Makrevis, age 83, formerly of California, passed away with his family at his side on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan. He was born in Sheboygan on May 29, 1942, to the late Alvin and Margaret (Repenshek) Makrevis. Following high school graduation he moved to Milwaukee, WI, working at a foundry for several years. He then moved to San Bruno, Calfornia, and was employed as a machinist at United Airlines in San Francisco for 37 years.
Upon early retirement, he met Luella Gebhard, and they were united in marriage in 1997. When not at their condo in Milbrae, CA, they enjoyed years of traveling around the world creating memories with friends and family. Luella preceded him in death on March 13, 2020.
Bud frequented Bay Meadows Racetrack betting on the horses in San Mateo, CA. He enjoyed fresh and salt water fishing, Giants, Brewers, Packers and 49ers games. His annual summer visits back to Wisconsin included a picnic or two for brats on a hard roll and polka bands. He loved listening to Johnny Cash, Otis Redding, and Willie Nelson. He returned to Sheboygan March 2025, residing at Countryside Manor Assisted Living Facility, spending his final days enjoying day trips with his sister Mary and nephew Ian.
Bud is survived by his daughter, Makalyne (Jeff) Leard, of Clear Lake, CA; his grandchildren Mitchell Leard, Aubrianna McClaine, and Nicole Luna, all of Clear Lake, CA his 4 great-grandchildren, his brother Richard Makrevis (Celeste) of San Francisco, CA; and his sister Mary Progar and nephew Ian Progar, both of Sheboygan, WI. He is further survived by his step-siblings, and other relatives and friends.
Bud is preceded in death by his wife Luella, his father, Alvin (Eva) Makrevis, his mother Margaret (Edward) Brunette, his sister Sandra (Harry “Bud”) Kachelmeier, his grandparents Joseph (Mary) Repenshek and Frank (Anna) Makarevictz, and his niece Alexis “Ally” Progar.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Mills Vista Estate of Burlingame, CA for their years of compassionate care for Bud, to Gary Stanton, of Sandy, Utah, for assisting Bud with financial matters, and to Zimmer Westview Funeral Home for helping the family walk through this very difficult time in their lives.
Alvin will be laid to rest at Greendale Cemetery, 1008 Greendale Rd, Sheboygan, on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Bud’s name.
