James A Joas of Calumetville, formerly of Sheboygan, died on July 27, 2008 at the age of 70 years old. He was the son of the late Arthur and Margaret (Merrill) Joas, born on June 1, 1938 in Stockbridge, WI. He graduated from Kiel High School in 1956 at which time he joined the Navy, serving on the USS Coney for two years. In his early years James was a car salesman at Elm City Motors and was employed at Tecumseh, prior to joining Wisconsin Public Service for eight years.
In 1969 Jim started a business selling snowmobiles which grew into Sheboygan Yamaha Motorsports which he owned and operated for 38 years. On February 1, 2007 Jim sold the business and retired.
Jim was a charter member of the Lakeshore Two Cylinder Antique Tractor Club and a member of the Calumetville Antique Tractor Club as Jim had a hobby of collecting and showing John Deere tractors and hit-n-miss motors. To satisfy his competitive nature Jim enjoyed participating in antique tractor pulls, and has many trophies to show for his efforts.
He was a charter member of the Louis Corners Sno Birds Snowmobile club as well as a member of the Howard's Grove Snowdrifters and Ranger City Riders Snowmobile Club of Amberg. He enjoyed the sport of snowmobiling and was instrumental in getting the recreation trail along Hwy 28 open for snowmobiling. Jim was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and water sports along with friends and family. He also was a great adventurer and loved to travel.
He was also a member of the Howard's Grove VFW Post #9924.
Jim is survived by his daughter Jane (John) Stange, finance' Kay Zeutzius, two brothers Joe (Marilyn) Joas and Bill (Carol) of Kiel, and nephews Mark and Mike Joas and nieces Pam (Brad) Matzdorf of New Holstein, and Lori (Paul) Garceau of Manitowoc and many, many special friends and relatives.
In addition to his parents, Jim was also preceded in death by his son Dean and nephew Scott Joas.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Jim on Wednesday July 30, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, N10232 County Road G in Marytown. Reverend Joseph H. Coerber will be celebrant. Interment will follow at St Peter and Paul cemetary in Kiel. Friends may call at Zimmer's Westview Funeral & Cremation Care Center W2132 Garton Road (Hwy 42 and County Road JJ, Howards Grove) on Tuesday from 3 until 8 p.m. at at the CHURCH on Wednesday from 10:00 until the time of Mass.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in the name of James A. Joas.
