Erwin H. Bender Jr., age 58, passed away at his home in the town of Sheboygan, WI after a hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer on June 22, 2008.

Erwin, known to most as "Erv" or "Junior", was born on June 3, 1950 to the late Erwin H. Sr. and Edna (Brendel) Bender.  He was raised in Howards Grove where he made many life-long friends. Erv was married to Lynn Leon of Elkhart Lake on October 6, 1973.  Together they raised two children, Toby and Mandi, on their Suffolk sheep farm in Plymouth.

On October 15, 2004 Erv was married to his best friend Barbara J. Lorenz.  They looked forward to a long and happy life together.

After graduating from Howards Grove High School Erv worked for the Sheboygan County Highway Department and later became a truck driver for Chair City and then Sargento Foods. He retired in 2008 after 25 years with Sargento. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran church in Sheboygan Falls.

For those that knew Erv best, they knew he was a proud man with many interests. He enjoyed life in the country and all the pleasures that came with it. Being out in the yard, working on his latest landscaping project, mowing the lawn or tinkering in the garage were among his favorite things to do. He loved everything about the Packers and always enjoyed a weekend drive in his Corvette or Falcon. He loved to spend time with friends, playing cards and pouring the perfect Old Fashion. Over the years of being in the sheep industry, Erv gained many friends. They always knew "Big B" would come to each show with plenty of food, drink and laughs.   He loved to be outside with his boys Fritzy and Skoal and there will be many other dogs that will miss a scratch behind the ears.

Erv is survived by his loving wife Barbara, son, Toby (fiancée Amy Mrozinski) of Hopkinton, IA, daughter Mandi (John VanDerVaart), Elkhart Lake, WI; mother Edna (Brendel) Bender of Howards Grove:  two step daughters, Tomi (Rev. David) Knuth of Jacksonville, IL and Toni (Scott) Schurrer of Grainger, IN; six step grandchildren, Olivia, Vannesa, Victoria and Elizabeth, Andrea and Nicholas Schurrer; two brothers, Roger (Shirley) Bender, Cleveland, Jerry Bender, Scottsdale, AZ; one sister, Judy Bender of Howards Grove; his mother-in-law, Florence Lorenz of Howards Grove and sisters-in-law, Charlene (Kenneth) Gumm, Janice (Richard) Casper, Judy (Dennis) Wallner and  brothers-in-law Ronald (Lo Ann) Lorenz, David (Debbie) Lorenz, and Richard (Tina) Lorenz.  Erv is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, special friend Ray Horn and many good friends across the country in the sheep industry.

Erv is preceded in death by his father Erwin H. Bender, Sr.; his  brother, Kenneth W.Bender; his grandparents, Charles and Frieda (Illig) Bender, Otto and Olga (Stecker) Brendel and father-in-law Clemens Lorenz.

A Funeral Service will be held for Erv on Friday June 27, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 730 Cty Trunk PPP, Sheboygan Falls. Reverend Mark Janzen, Associate Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery of Howards Grove. Friends may call at Zimmer's Westview Funeral & Cremation Care Center W2132 Garton Road (Hwy 42 and Cty JJ) on Thursday from 4 until 8 p.m. and at the CHURCH on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
