St. Clement's Catholic Church
Mary Elizabeth Keitel, 83, of 2639 N. 8th St., passed away Thursday, May 22, 2008, at home, with her family at her side.
Mary was born November 23rd, 1924 in Sheboygan to the late Edward F. and Margaret B. (Finnegan) Sullivan. She graduated from North High School and attended the University of Wisconsin Sheboygan. On July 15, 1948 she married William G. Keitel. After 56 years of marriage, he preceded her in death December 24, 2004.
Mary was a lifelong active member of St. Clement's Catholic Parish, where she participated in the Altar Society, acted as Lay Commentator, Lay Sacristan, and Eucharistic Minister, "…and dressed to the nines every time".
In 1967 she was encouraged by her uncle Charlie to begin what became a lifelong career in real estate in the Sheboygan area. Mary fondly recognized Rich Ballschmider as her mentor, and credited him for her early success. Mary was passionate about real estate, and the opportunity it gave her to establish many cherished friends. In addition to numerous professional recognitions, one of her professional peers described her as "elegant, moral, upstanding, and the most hard working". After her recent retirement, she volunteered her compassion and energy to others with greater limitations. She re-kindled her lifelong love of music as an active member of the Golden Chordaliers.
Above all, the most important part of Mary's life was her family.
Mary is survived and cherished by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Tim of Milwaukee, Jill and Gary Thelen of Sheboygan, and their children, Angela and Peter, children Garrett, and Caleb Paasch; Amy Thelen, children Zoe and Mayson; and Lisa Thelen; Kathe and Armand Fermin of Sheboygan; Bill and Jill and children Erin, Hannah, and Keara, of Carlsbad, CA; Pat and Jeff Hoffman of Erin, WI; Sheila and Allan Brinson of Phoenix, AZ; Mike of Sheboygan; Marilyn and David Lamb with their children Elliot and Sarah of Stevens Point, and Joe and Lynn of Kiel. She was preceded in death by her daughter Amy, and her brothers Edward and Donald who were both lost while serving on submarines during WWII.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mary Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at 4:30 P.M. at St. Clement's Catholic Church. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service. The Reverend Richard Cerpich will be the Celebrant. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
