Tobin Lee Kramer, 53, of 736 S. Water St., passed away Sunday, May 11, 2008, at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, following a courageous 5 year battle with cancer. He gave a special gift to his mother on mother's day, by being by her side.
Toby was born September 7, 1954 in Sheboygan to Harvey (Jane) and the late Ramona (Binder) Kramer. He graduated from North High School in 1972. On September 9, 1977, he married Norleen Piedot. Toby was employed by VPI for over 30 years before working for Padanaplast for the past three years. He also previously worked for Auto Zone.
Early in their marriage Toby enjoyed vanning. He started Sin City Vans, and was involved with the Wisconsin Van Council. He enjoyed vacations to warmer climates, tinkering on the house and cars. He will always be remembered for his humbleness and a great sense of humor. Even at his worst times, there was always humor and hope.
In addition to his wife Norleen, he is survived by his son Cory (Debbi) Kramer, his daughters Rhonda (her partner Krystal) Kramer, and Bri (Fiancé Dustin Schroeder) Kramer, all of Sheboygan, his grandsons Aiden and Josiah, and his parents Harvey (Jane) Kramer. A special thanks to everyone at the Sharon Richardson Hospice Community. Thank you for all your help, love and support. We deeply appreciate all you have done, and are sure Toby is also looking down on all of you with much love and thanks with Art by his side.
Visitation and Funeral Mass for Carl Michels Time: 4:00pm - 10:30am Central Location:
Zimmer Funeral Home Sheboygan & Holy Name
Carl J. Michels of Sheboygan passed peacefully into eternal life surrounded by family the afternoon of May 10, 2008 at St. Nicholas Hospital after a short stay. He was born in Sheboygan on March 14, 1939 to Arthur and Lavina (Mayer) Michels. In 1942, his family moved to Milwaukee. He graduated from South Division High School in 1958. After high school, Carl attended the University of Wisconsin - Platteville where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering. During this time, Carl married and started his own family.
In 1965, Carl and his family moved to South Bend, Indiana where he took on his first engineering job with the Clyde E. Williams firm. As Carl's family grew, he entered graduate school at the University of Notre Dame where he advanced his education by earning a Masters Degree in Engineering. In 1971, Carl and his family moved to Sheboygan, WI because of a fortunate career opportunity offered by Donohue & Associates, now known as Earth Tech. He was involved with water and wastewater treatment projects throughout the Midwest. Some of his ventures, as senior project manager, included Heart of the Valley, the city of Oconomowoc and the city of Medford.
Carl always had a special relationship with his clients built on trust, professionalism and responsiveness. He was their advocate who listened, met their needs and was truly their friend for life. His projects received state and national awards for engineering excellence. After retiring from Earth Tech, Carl began Michels Engineering to continue serving his long-term clients.
Carl experienced many joys in life. As a child, he began a life long hobby of raising and racing homing pigeons and was a member of the Sheboygan Pigeon Club for years. He was an active member of the Sheboygan Falls High School Booster Club where his children went to school and always attended both his children's and grandchildren's school activities.
Carl was also an avid coin and stamp collector. He shared this interest with his children and grandchildren and gave special dated coins often as gifts to them. Carl took many camping trips with friends and family and he loved to ski as well. As a member of the Sheboygan Ski club, Carl went on several ski trips and outings. Carl's travels continued throughout his life. One of his most recent trips was to Italy this past fall where he walked the streets of Florence and visited the iconic sites of Rome.
Carl especially loved and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was always meeting new people, seeking out new knowledge and never ran out of stories to share, be it hunting, working or worldly affairs. Almost all of Carl's hobbies included the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and an advocate of preserving natural resources. Carl shared many of his hunting and fishing adventures with his friends, brother, children, son-in-laws and grandchildren. Our memories of these escapades will be treasured forever.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents Arthur (1990) and Lavina Michels (2004)
and his sister, Sister Marianne Michels, O.L.V.M. (1999).
Carl is survived by his brother Edward Michels of Pewaukee, WI; four children: Felicia Michels (Dan) Krueger of Plymouth, WI; James Michels of Milwaukee, WI; Laura Michels (Steve) Pendergraft of Fort Worth, TX; and Sarah Michels Kuhfuss (Gabe) of Minneapolis, MN; eight grandchildren: Seth, Brent and Dayton Krueger of Plymouth, WI; Colby, Audrey and Allison Pendergraft of Fort Worth, TX; and Emily and Ingrid Kuhfuss of Minneapolis, MN; longtime companion Debbie Cramer of Sheboygan, WI ; and numerous relatives and lifelong friends.

His burial will be at St. George Parish Cemetery, Town of Wilson. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name for the American Lung Association of Wisconsin.
On behalf of Carl, his family and friends express gratitude towards the caring staff at St. Nicholas Hospital for the loving care and concern given to him during his last days. We would especially like to thank Dr. Phillip Detrana and Dr. Michael Johnson for the medical advice and care they provided to our dad as it allowed him to live an active life up until his stay at the hospital. We love you for now and always, dad.
