Katherine (Katie) V. Gabsch, 63, of 214 S. Pershing Ave., passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Katherine was born July 7, 1944 in Sheboygan to the late Robert Sr. and Lorraine (Sand) Gumm. On April 11, 1964, she married Allen Gabsch at St. Mark's U.C.C. Together the couple farmed on Countyline Rd. in Cleveland until moving to Howards Grove in 2005.
Katherine was a life long member of St. Mark's United Church of Christ, Town Mosel. She was baptized August 13, 1944, and confirmed September 8, 1957. She graduated from Sheboygan South High School in 1962.
She was employed by H.C. Prange in Sheboygan, at St. Nicholas Hospital with H.I.M.S. Service in medical records, a volunteer there in the gift shop, and on the family farm in the Town of Mosel.
In addition to her husband Allen of 44 years, she is survived by her sons Michael (Christine) Gabsch of Cleveland, Steven (Mary Jo) Gabsch of Howards Grove, her daughter Kendra Westermeyer and special friend Michael Hersey of Kiel, five grandchildren, Kyle and Derek Gabsch, Jenna, Hunter, and Adam Westermeyer. She is also survived by her sisters, Carol (Lyle) Reinemann and Karen (Richard) Binversie, a brother Robert Jr. (Beverly) Gumm, three sisters-in-law, Betty (Edward) Kretsch, Julianne (David) Luebke, and Doris (Dale) Sprenger. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her in-laws Alfred (Norma) Gabsch.
Katherine loved watching her grandchildren, cooking, baking, and spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed paying solitary, playing on her new computer, and watching the cooking channel. Her apple and banana pies were loved by all.
Funeral Services for Katherine will be held Saturday, May 10, 2008, at 1:30 P.M. at St. Mark's United Church of Christ. The Reverend William Kesting, Pastor, will officiate. Friends may call on Saturday, at church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will follow services at St. Mark's U.C.C. Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks for the care given to Katherine by the St. Nicholas Hospice with special thanks to Amy and Dr. Detrana for their loving care.
A memorial fund has been established in her name for St. Nicholas Hospital Hospice (3100 Superior Ave., Sheboygan) and St. Mark's United Church of Christ, for the Handicapped Accessibility Fund.
