Elsie I. Johnson, age 93, a resident of the Willowpark Residence in New Holstein, and formerly of the Town of Meeme. passed away peacefully on Wednesday April 30, 2008.
She was born in the town of Meeme on August 20, 1914, a daughter of the late William H. and Clara (Kuhn) Umsonst. Elsie attended the Pigeon River School in the town of Meeme.
On October 2, 1937 Elsie Umsonst was united in marriage to Norman H. Johnson at St. Johns United Church of Christ Parsonage in Schwarzwald. The couple lived on the Kuhn Homestead farm in the town of Meeme. Norman preceded her in death in October of 1992. Elsie moved to the Willowpark Residence in March of 2000.
She was a life member of St. John's U.C.C. in Schwarzwald. She had been a member of the Meeme Homemakers and the Farm Bureau Chorus. Elsie was an avid birdwatcher, and had a great love for dogs. She enjoyed playing sheepshead and dice with her fellow residents at Willowpark.
Surviving her are two sons; Carl (Marjorie) Johnson of Ada and Roger (Dolores "Dee") Johnson of Santa Barbara, CA; four Grandchildren, Terri (Mark) Stemen, Todd (Marla) Johnson, Kelly Mitchell Johnson, Timothy (Mindy) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Brendan, Zachary, Aaron, and Seth Johnson, Elizabeth and Hannah Stemen, Marshall Johnson two step-grandchildren, Cynthia Rubio and Charlene (Ruben) Rodriguez; step-great-grandchildren, Alexander and Anthony Rodriguez and Alexis and Leanna Romero.
In addition to her husband and parents, Elsie was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kristin Johnson.
A Funeral Service will be held for Elsie on Saturday May 3, 2008 at 12:30 p.m. at St. Johns United Church in Schwarzwald. Reverend Rebecca Johnston, Pastor, will officiate. Entombment will follow the service at the Garden of Peace Mausoleum of Greenlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call on the family on Saturday from 10:30 until the time of the service.
Memorial funds have been established to St. Johns U.C.C. and the Willowpark Residence in the name of Elsie I. Johnson.
