Visitation and Funeral Service for Shirley Dirks
Time: 4:00pm - 11:00am Central

Shirley A. Dirks, age 68, of W1306 Orchard Road, Town Mosel, passed away peacefully on Monday April 28, 2008 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Frederic Wisconsin on September 25, 1939, a daughter of the late Antone and Wava (Sahr) Erickson. Shirley attended the Luck Public School until moving to Mesa Arizona in 1956. She graduated from Mesa High School in 1957. On March 1, 1958 Shirley was united in marriage to Kenneth Dirks at First Lutheran Church in Mesa. They recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. The couple moved to the Cleveland area in 1959.

For over 30 years, Shirley was a waitress at the Hoffbrau Restaurant in downtown Sheboygan, retiring in the year 2000. She was an active member of St. Marks United Church of Christ in the town of Mosel, where she had been a Sunday school teacher and member of the Bible Study group. She was also active with T.O.P.S., where she had many caring friends who supported her. Shirley also was involved in the Wisconsin Truck Rodeo, along with her husband Ken for over 45 years.

Shirley's pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Anybody who knew Shirley, knew about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with the stories and pictures. She loved travel, seeing Alaska and Hawaii, as well as numerous trips to Arizona where she and Ken spent part of the winter for many years. She also loved gardening, flowers, and was a voracious reader.

Surviving Shirley is her loving husband, Ken; her daughters and their husbands, Denise (Larry) Heling of Town Mosel and Tammy (Peter) Koenig of Fall Creek, WI; four grandchildren, Erick (Special Friend Amelia Baumann), Crystal  Van Eps, Casey (Josh) Velie and Brittany Koenig; two great-grandchildren, Chase and Eoin; a sister, Antoinette (Jerry) Horky; two brothers, Pete Erickson and Thomas (Debbie) Erickson, all of Luck, WI; one brother in law, Dale Dirks of Town Mosel, her special friends, Wayne and Ann Grunwald, many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and  many friends. In addition to her parents, Shirley was also preceded in death by a great nephew, Zachary Wolfe.

A Funeral Service will be held for Shirley on Friday May 2, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. St. Marks United Church of Christ in town Mosel. Reverend William Kesting, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at the Church Cemetery. Friends may call on the family on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at Zimmer's Westview Funeral & Cremation Care Center. W2132 Garton Road, Sheboygan. Visitation will continue at the CHURCH on Friday from 10:00 until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Shirley's name for St. Mark's U.C.C. Handicapped Accessorily Addition fund.

The Dirks family wishes to thank H. Marshall Matthews, M.D., and the staff at Matthews Oncology, including Nancy McLaughlin and the special team of angels in the lab and Chemo-Therapy, who became a part of our family, expressing their outpouring of love and compassion for Shirley. Also thank you to St. Nicholas Hospital Home Health & Hospice the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center, Jason and Kristin for the love and care expressed.

Shirley-
You may not be very tall, but we all have to look up to you for strength, disposition, attitude and caring for others. Thank you for being part of our lives.
