Martha Kotnick

Martha Kotnick, age 84, of Sheboygan, passed away at her residence on Thursday March 4, 2010 surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 31, 1926 in Cheraw, CO, a daughter of the late Henry and Kathryn (Ernst) Schimpf. Martha’s family moved from Colorado in 1926, and she has made Sheboygan her home the past 84 years.

Martha Schimpf was united in marriage to Frank Kotnick on October 8, 1949 at Ss.Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Sheboygan. The couple built their home on Mayflower Avenue, where they have resided for the past 60 years. Martha enjoyed baking, especially making Potica with her daughters and granddaughters. Martha and Frank enjoyed camping and fishing with family and friends. Martha was known as “The Dog Lady” at Potowatomi State Park because she was often seen walking her 4 Dachshunds.
She also loved flower gardening, writing in her journals, reading and the challenges of crossword puzzles.

Martha was a member of Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, K.S.K.J., Christian Mothers and the Slovenian Women’s Union.

Surviving Martha is her loving husband of over 60 years, Frank; two daughters, Marilyn (Bryan) Hendricks and Cheryl Lopour, both of Sheboygan; 7 grandchildren, William (Amy Washburn) and Rebecca Simon, Benjamin and Matthew Hendricks, Erin (Special friend Zak VanWyk) Lopour and Daniel and David Lopour; a great-grandson, Joseph Simon; 3 sisters, Rachel Ertel of Weyauwega, Helen Plumb and Julie Jekenewicz both of Sheboygan; a brother, Richard Schimpf of Sheboygan; two sisters-in-law, Betty Kotnick of Sheboygan and Carol Kotnik of Milwaukee; a brother-in-law, Jack Steffes of Sheboygan as well as nieces, nephews and many friends.. In addition to her parents, Martha was also preceded in death by a brother, Henry Schimpf Jr., and son-in-law James Lopour.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Martha on Monday, March 8, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church. Reverend Michael Dineen will be celebrant. Interment will follow at Greendale Cemetery. Friends may call on the Kotnick family at Zimmer Funeral Home, 805 N 6th Street Sheboygan on Sunday from 3 until 6 p.m. and at the CHURCH on Monday from 9:00 until the time of the Mass.
