Joan M. (Sawyer) Hughes, 55, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2010, at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice following a courageous battle with cancer.
Joan was born November 26, 1954 in Green Bay to William and Delores (Ebel) Sawyer. She graduated from Ashwaubenon High School in 1972. On September 11, 1977, she was united in marriage to Melvin F. Hughes, at Methodist Church in Green Bay, WI. He preceded her in death June 25, 2007.
She held various retail management positions throughout the lakeshore area. She also enjoyed working for estate sales, and finding the little treasures along the way. She loved reading anything she could get her hands on. She enjoyed making different types of crafts. She was very passionate and skilled with her bead work.
She was blessed with a big heart, always there to lend a helping hand to those in need. She opened her home to anyone that needed help.
She is survived by her daughters Suni McCall and Heather Hughes (Matt Abraham) of Sheboygan WI, three grandchildren Brandon, Claudia, and William Abraham of Sheboygan, WI, her parents William (Delores) Sawyer of Hartford, her brothers and sisters; John (Sue) Sawyer of Arkansas, James (Jean) Sawyer of Oconomowoc, Joyce (David) Paral of Hartland, Jackie (Michael) Seipel of GA, her mother-in-law Gertie Hughes and a brother-in-law Eddy (Mary) Hughes of KY.
A Memorial Service will be held for Joan on Monday, February 22, 2010, at 3:00 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church, 1429 N 5th Street, Sheboygan. Reverend Richard Manny will officiate. Cremation has taken place at Westview and a private family committal will be held. Friends may call on the family on Monday at church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of St. Luke’s Hospital in Milwaukee, the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic, Dr. Rejman Peterson, with a very special thank you to the incredible staff of Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
